Gaggia Classic Pro / Evo Pro PID: kit and installation planning guide
Identify the exact Gaggia, choose the current PID kit that actually supports it, download the current vendor manual, and stop if the real machine does not match the documented path. This page no longer reproduces an old universal terminal-by-terminal wiring sequence.

Which Auber PID path fits the machine?
Auber currently sells more than one Gaggia PID kit. The right choice depends on the exact model, voltage and feature set. Do not mix instructions from the temperature-only kit, pre-infusion kit, a 2015 European RI9403 path, or a community kit just because they all use the word PID.
| Machine / need | Current Auber path | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Classic Pro RI9380, 120 V or 240 V | KIT-GGP pre-infusion kit is currently listed compatible. | Use the exact current buyer manual for the voltage/model. |
| European Classic Pro RI9480, 240 V | KIT-GGP is currently listed compatible. | Energy-saving/auto-off hardware changes the path; do not use a generic bypass. |
| Classic Evo Pro, 2023 | KIT-GGP is currently listed compatible. | One-piece switch connectors may require additional WCC-250-PA housings; inspect the real machine first. |
| European Classic 2015 RI9403, 240 V | KIT-GGP is explicitly not compatible. | Auber directs this machine to KIT-GGX-EU. |
| Temperature-only control | KIT-GG is a separate current product family. | Do not borrow KIT-GGP pump/pre-infusion wiring assumptions. |
| Classic Pro E24 | Do not assume KIT-GGP compatibility from the older Pro/Evo wording. | The current KIT-GGP page checked for this audit does not explicitly list E24; confirm current vendor support before ordering. |
Identifying the machine before ordering the kit
Start at the machine label, not at the switch shape. Record the full model ID, suffix, voltage, market and generation. The Gaggia Classic family spans machines that look similar but follow different control and wiring paths.
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Full model ID and suffix | Separates RI9380, RI9480, RI9403 and other family variants. |
| Voltage / market | Auber supports both mains ranges, but model-specific wiring and energy-saving logic differ. |
| Classic Pro vs Evo Pro vs other generation | Current vendor notes add Evo-specific connector requirements. |
| Switch connector style | Auber specifically asks Evo owners to check for one-piece wire connectors. |
| Existing modifications | Previous PID, dimmer, OPV, grounding or harness work can invalidate a stock-machine diagram. |
What does the current KIT-GGP control?
Auber currently documents brew-water temperature control, steam-temperature control, pre-infusion timer/pump control, and retention of the original switch functions. The kit is listed for both 120 VAC and 230 VAC.
Those features describe the current vendor product; they do not validate an old HBM relay layout, wire-color map, terminal-number map or enclosure placement. Use the manual downloaded for the exact kit/order.
Why this page no longer publishes the old 28-step wiring sequence
The previous HBM page treated a particular kit layout as universal: two relay types, fixed vent-hole positions, pump-tab wiring, rocker-switch swaps, a numbered controller terminal map, thermostat removal, and a ground-chain retrofit.
Current Auber documentation shows real compatibility branches: RI9380 vs RI9480, RI9403 exclusion, Evo one-piece connector blocks, optional auto-off hardware and separate KIT-GG / KIT-GGP products. A current install has to follow the exact buyer manual for the kit and machine.
HBM therefore keeps the reusable planning and safety logic here and retires the old per-terminal wiring instructions.
What should you do before opening the machine?
- Freeze the exact machine identity. Save a photo of the full rating label.
- Choose the current kit. Confirm KIT-GGP, KIT-GG or the RI9403-specific path from the current vendor page.
- Download the buyer manual. Auber’s detailed install documents are currently purchase/login gated.
- Compare the manual to the real hardware. Check switch connectors, energy-saving hardware, sensor mounting and supplied parts before disconnecting anything.
- Photograph the stock state. Record wiring, grounding, thermostats, pump area and switch connectors for rollback.
- Cool and unplug. No internal work with the machine hot, pressurized or connected to mains.
- Stop on a mismatch. Unknown connectors, damaged insulation, previous modifications or a manual/photo mismatch must be resolved before proceeding.
What about Evo Pro one-piece switch connectors?
Auber’s current KIT-GGP page tells Evo Pro owners to inspect whether the switches use one-piece wire connectors. If they do, extra connector housings may be required; Auber distinguishes the quantity for energy-saving and non-energy-saving machines.
That is exactly why a generic “swap these rocker-switch wires” recipe is unsafe. Match the current buyer manual and supplied connector parts to the real Evo before changing the switch harness.
What about European auto-off hardware?
The European RI9480 path can include an energy-saving module. Auber offers an optional item related to defeating auto-off, but HBM does not reproduce a universal bypass procedure here.
If retaining or defeating auto-off matters to your build, use the current vendor documentation for the exact RI9480/Evo path. Treat it as a separate mains-power decision, not a line of wire-color instructions copied from another region.
How should first power-on be handled?
Complete the install exactly as the current vendor manual specifies, then use that manual’s inspection and commissioning sequence. Before mains power is restored, verify the documented final state for enclosure, insulation, protective earth, connectors, sensor and control hardware.
Disconnect power immediately if the controller does not start normally, the sensor reading is implausible, the heater or pump behaves unexpectedly, a breaker/GFCI/RCD trips, insulation smells overheated, or moisture reaches electrical parts.
What PID temperatures and timer values should you use?
Start from the current presets/instructions delivered with the exact controller, sensor, temperature unit and kit. The old HBM page published one brew temperature, one steam temperature, one stability tolerance and one timing sequence as though they were universal.
They are not a substitute for the current kit manual or a controlled espresso dial-in. Keep coffee, dose, yield and grinder setting controlled while you adjust temperature, and change one variable at a time. If the display behaves abnormally, resolve sensor/install evidence before tuning around the problem.

Frequently asked questions
Does KIT-GGP fit a Classic Evo Pro?
Auber currently says yes. It also tells Evo owners to inspect the switch connector style and notes that one-piece connector blocks can require additional connector housings. Use the current manual for that exact hardware.
Does KIT-GGP fit the 2015 European RI9403?
No according to Auber’s current KIT-GGP page. Auber directs RI9403 owners to KIT-GGX-EU.
Does this page confirm KIT-GGP for E24?
No. The current KIT-GGP compatibility text checked for this audit explicitly names Classic Pro and Evo Pro but does not explicitly name E24. Confirm current E24 compatibility with the vendor before ordering.
Is the current KIT-GGP controller the old SYL-1512A?
No. Auber’s current product page explicitly says the controller in KIT-GGP is not SYL-1512A and tells owners to contact Auber for the correct replacement part.
Should you install an OPV spring or dimmer at the same time?
Do not bundle unrelated modifications just because the case is open. First confirm the exact machine and the problem you are trying to solve. Current US E24 pressure setup, older Classic pressure hardware, Evo wiring and PID control are separate questions.
The current kit manual, not an old universal wiring map.
Identify the Gaggia, choose the exact current kit, save rollback photos, and follow the buyer manual for that model/voltage. If the real machine diverges from the document, stop.
