Rancilio Silvia × Auber PID // current-version planning

Rancilio Silvia Auber PID: version and installation planning guide

Use this page to identify the Silvia you actually own, choose the current Auber kit and sensor path, prepare the machine safely, and know when to stop. The current Auber installation manual is version-specific and buyer-only; this page does not replace it with an old universal terminal map.

Electrical scope: A Silvia PID retrofit involves mains-voltage wiring inside the machine. Keep the machine unplugged and cool whenever the chassis is open. Do not use this page to hot-probe line, neutral, heater or SSR terminals. If the current Auber diagram does not match the real machine one-to-one, stop.

Which Auber kit is current in 2026?

Auber’s current pre-infusion kit is KIT-RSPc. Auber describes it as a February 2026 release compatible with all Rancilio Silvia models, with updated parts for newer V6 machines assembled in Spain approximately after April 2024.

The older KIT-RSPb still has a product page, but Auber now labels that page Pre-2024. That is why an old HBM wiring diagram or an older customer video should not be assumed to match a newly purchased KIT-RSPc.

Practical rule: identify the exact Silvia first, then use the manual downloaded with the exact Auber kit you actually bought.

Identifying the Silvia before choosing the installation guide

Auber specifically calls out newer Silvia V6 units made in Spain approximately after April 2024 because the pump-area hardware can differ from earlier machines. Use the factory sticker and real hardware, not “V6” by itself.

Existing modificationsPrevious PID, wiring, pump, OPV or thermostat changes can invalidate a stock-machine diagram.

Photograph the factory sticker and the untouched wiring before disconnecting anything. Those photos are your rollback record and the quickest way to resolve a mismatch with Auber support.

Which temperature sensor should you choose?

Auber’s current KIT-RSPc page says the default RTDstat option is compatible with all Silvia models. It separately notes that machines made roughly between 2000 and May 2006 may have two extra M4 holes below the thermostats, which can affect the sensor option you choose.

Do not infer sensor choice from an old HBM photo or from a forum post. Use the current Auber product option and the buyer manual for your machine. If the boiler top does not match the manual photo, stop before removing a thermostat or forcing a sensor into a location that only exists on another revision.

What does the current KIT-RSPc control?

Auber states that KIT-RSPc keeps the feature set of the prior pre-infusion kit: it controls water temperature, steam temperature, and the brew pump with a built-in timer.

That does not make every older parameter table a current default. Controller firmware, kit revisions, sensor selection and the intended coffee workflow all matter. Start with the presets/instructions delivered for the exact kit and temperature unit you purchased.

Do not copy old fixed numbers: this page intentionally does not prescribe a universal brew setpoint, P value, pre-infusion pulse time, soak time or shot timer.

What should you do before opening the machine?

  1. Confirm the current kit. Make sure the order/product page says KIT-RSPc if that is the kit you intend to install.
  2. Download the buyer manual. Auber currently restricts the detailed installation documents to customers; use the current download attached to your order.
  3. Match the manual to your Silvia. Check version, manufacturing location/date, voltage and E/M variant.
  4. Save rollback evidence. Photograph the factory wiring, thermostat/pump area, connector positions and label before disassembly.
  5. Cool and unplug. Do not begin internal work with the machine hot, pressurized or connected to mains.
  6. Stop on any mismatch. If wire count, connector shape, pump fitting, thermostat arrangement or supplied SSR differs from the current manual, resolve it with Auber before proceeding.

Why this page no longer publishes terminal-by-terminal wiring

The previous HBM version reproduced a fixed sequence for thermostat relocation, SSR placement, wire colors and PID terminals. That sequence came from older Auber-era material and was written as though every Silvia and every kit revision used the same layout.

Auber now documents a newer KIT-RSPc with updated parts for newer V6 hardware, while the detailed current manual is available only to purchasers. HBM therefore cannot responsibly claim that an old terminal map is the current universal instruction.

Use HBM for version selection, preparation, safety gates and troubleshooting logic. Use the current Auber buyer manual for the actual connection sequence.

How should first power-on be handled?

Finish the physical installation exactly as the current Auber manual specifies, then perform the manual’s inspection and first-power-on sequence. Before power is restored, make sure covers, insulation, protective earth, connectors and wire routing match the documented final state for that kit and Silvia version.

STOPPower off and stop if!Controller won't start!Reading looks implausible!Heater ignores controller!Breaker or RCD tripsNever probe it live

Also stop for a hot-insulation smell or moisture near electrical parts. Unexpected heating means power off, never bypassing a thermostat, relay or safety device.

If the controller does not start normally, the sensor reading is implausible, the heater behavior does not follow the controller, a breaker/GFCI/RCD trips, you smell overheated insulation, or you see moisture near electrical parts, disconnect mains power and stop. Do not troubleshoot an unknown mains mismatch by probing the open chassis live.

Stop condition: unexpected heating is a power-off event, not an invitation to bypass a thermostat, relay or safety device.

What about Silvia E auto-power-off?

Auber’s current product page says European Silvia E variants retain their auto-power-off feature after the PID kit is installed. The kit does not disable that feature.

Auber links external community material for owners who want to defeat auto-off, but HBM does not reproduce that mains-power modification here. If auto-off is part of your use case, treat it as a separate electrical project with its own version and safety evidence.

How do you choose a brew temperature after installation?

Start from the current Auber instructions/presets for the exact sensor and temperature unit you purchased, then dial the espresso from the cup. Do not copy the old HBM rule that every Silvia should be set to one fixed display temperature or that a fixed display-to-water offset applies to every sensor placement and kit revision.

Change one variable at a time. Keep coffee, dose, yield and grinder setting controlled while you test temperature. If the displayed temperature behaves strangely, return to sensor seating and the current kit manual rather than “tuning around” a hardware or wiring mismatch.

Frequently asked questions

Does the current Auber pre-infusion kit fit every Silvia?

Auber currently markets KIT-RSPc as compatible with all Rancilio Silvia models, including V5/V6 E or M and older models. Auber also calls out the newer Spain-built V6 hardware specifically, so the correct current install file still matters.

Can I use the old KIT-RSPb instructions for a new KIT-RSPc?

Do not assume so. Auber says KIT-RSPc updates a few wires and the solid-state relay for newer Silvia V6 machines. Use the documents delivered with your exact order.

Which sensor is the default current choice?

Auber’s current KIT-RSPc page says the default RTDstat sensor is compatible with all Silvia models. Older 2000–May 2006 boilers can have extra M4 mounting holes, so check the product option/manual before ordering a different sensor.

Will the PID disable the EU auto-off function?

No, according to Auber’s current product page. The E-model auto-off feature remains unless it is addressed as a separate modification.

What if my machine does not match the Auber photos?

Stop before making a connection. Record the factory sticker and the real hardware, then resolve the version with Auber or qualified service. A mismatch is evidence that the generic guide is not the correct installation path.

The current kit manual, not an old universal wiring map.

Identify the Silvia, choose the current Auber kit and sensor, save rollback photos, and follow the version-specific buyer manual. If the real machine diverges from the document, stop.
