It does not dose your coffee or fix a coarse grind. If the shot is sour and the handle still stops near 6 o’clock, look at beans and the grinder first.

The Gaggia Classic Pro service kit is a €24 group-head baseline: refresh the bits that leak and hold coffee oil before you blame OPV or a PID.

How to change it without wrecking the screen screw

Unplug the machine and let it cool. The Classic screen is held by a center screw. If that screw fights you, stop — 1st-line’s warning is that a snapped head can become a shop job.

1. Remove the screen screw and screen.
2. Lift or pull the old gasket. A stuck ring may need a careful pick; do not gouge the brass groove.
3. Scrub oil out of the groove.
4. Seat the new gasket (smooth face toward the portafilter on most Gaggia rings).
5. Lock the portafilter to finish seating, then refit the screen snug, not brutal.

Swap the screen at the same time if the spray is uneven on a blank flush. That is ordinary maintenance, not a mod.

After the new gasket — what should change

The handle should catch earlier. Ear weeps should stop. Taste only changes if the old leak was channeling water around the puck.

If it still weeps, inspect the basket rim for dents (SCG’s overlooked cause) before you order a solenoid. A short dump into the drip tray *after* the shot on a 3-way machine is not this leak — that is the valve working.
