You read brew pressure with a gauge on the brew path. You do not read it from taste. The ranking r/espresso thread is “If you have a Gaggia, I highly recommend adjusting…” HomeBaristaMods’ OPV spring kit is $19. It is a spring. It is not a gauge. The pump can still be a ~15 bar vibration pump. The spring is the ceiling. Whether you need that ceiling at all is does the Pro need 9 bar.
A Silvia uses a lock-nut, not this spring: Silvia OPV.

The ranking thread is an adjust thread
Organic #1 is people telling Gaggia owners to change the OPV. YouTube how-tos sat beside it. A gauge is how you know the number before and after the spring. Crema and “it feels strong” are not bar.
| 宣称 | 真实 | 出处 | 差在哪 |
|---|---|---|---|
| The spring kit includes a gauge | $19 kit is the spring | OPV kit | Part vs meter |
| Taste confirms 9 bar | Only a gauge on the brew path reads bar | r/espresso #1 is an adjust thread, not a taste chart | Sense vs instrument |
| Same test on a Silvia | Silvia OPV is a lock-nut | Silvia 9 bar | Valve |

What you are measuring
The OPV dumps excess pump pressure. Stock Classics are often above 9 bar at the puck until that valve is changed. North American Evo and E24 pages may already list 9 bar. Read the badge on your machine before you order a spring for a box that left the factory there. Which chassis you have is which Gaggia Classic.
Unplug the machine before you open the case. The valve is not a live electrical part, but the boiler next to it is.

What the kit does after you have a number
If the gauge is well above 9 bar and the machine is a Pro that did not ship at 9 bar, the $19 spring is the part people swap. The kit does not install the gauge. It does not change a PID setpoint. Temperature is what number to type.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you check OPV pressure on a Gaggia Classic?
With a gauge teed into the brew path while the pump is running. Taste is not the meter.
Does the $19 kit include that gauge?
No. It is the replacement spring.
Can I check pressure from the steam wand?
Only if you are using a gauge made for that test. A bare wand is steam, not a brew-pressure reading.
Does a loud pump mean the OPV is wrong?
No. Noise is why the pump is loud.
Will this spring fit a Rancilio Silvia?
No. Silvia’s later OPV is a lock-nut.
Pressure parts: pressure control.
