Priming fills the pump with water so it can push. The ranking result after the YouTube clip is Home-Barista: “Gaggia Classic pump won’t prime.” A dry vibration pump howls and moves nothing. That is air, not a failed group solenoid. HomeBaristaMods does not sell a prime tool. The $19 OPV spring does not fill the pump. The $24 group kit does not either.
No water after the pump is already wet is solenoid, scale, or pump.

The ranking thread is a won’t-prime thread
Organic #1 among articles (YouTube skipped) is a pump that will not catch. The usual first move on a Classic is mechanical: tank seated, steam valve open, brew switch on, until water — not steam — comes out of the wand. Then close the steam valve and try the group.
| 宣称 | 真实 | 出处 | 差在哪 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buy an OPV spring to prime | $19 kit is a pressure spring | OPV kit | Bar vs air |
| No water means a dead solenoid | A dry pump never had water to send | Home-Barista #1 title | Air vs valve |
| PID makes the pump prime | PID holds temperature | PID kit | °C vs water |

When you actually need to prime
After the tank ran dry, after a descale that emptied the boiler, or after a new machine’s first fill. Descale ends with a flush for the same reason. If the pump only got loud, read why the pump is loud before you take the case apart.
Do not run a dry pump for minutes. Heat and no water cooks the pump.

If water still will not come
Confirm the tank valve is down on its pin. A tank that looks full and is not seated will not prime. If water reaches the wand and never the group, stop calling it a prime problem and use the no-flow article. Scale, a stuck solenoid, or a failed pump are different parts.
A service kit ($24) is the gasket and shower, not the inlet.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you prime a Gaggia Classic pump?
Seat the tank, open the steam valve, and run the pump until water comes out of the wand. Then close the valve and brew.
What if it only howls?
The inlet is still air or the tank is not seated. Stop and reseat before a long dry run.
Does the OPV spring prime the pump?
No.
Is this the same as no water from the group?
Only at the start. If the wand runs and the group does not, the pump is primed and the fault is downstream.
Should I open the case to prime?
Not for a normal refill. Case-off work is for a pump that still will not catch after the tank and steam valve are right, and the cord stays unplugged while you look.
