A breaker trip is an electrical fault, usually after the case has been opened. The ranking r/gaggiaclassic thread is “Gaggia Classic tripping electrical after reassembly.” HomeBaristaMods’ thermostat kit and PID kit both sit on mains. An OPV spring does not trip a breaker. If the breaker opens, stop resetting it and unplug the machine.
Thermostat replacement safety is how to replace the thermostat. Opening an E24 case is its own guide.

The ranking thread is a reassembly thread
Organic #1 is a machine that trips after it was put back together. That pattern is a pinched wire, a stray strand on a terminal, or a wet connector. It is not “the OPV is at 15 bar.” Whole Latte Love’s nearby title is GFCI and breaker trips in general. A GFCI in a kitchen also trips on leakage to ground.
| 宣称 | 真实 | 出处 | 差在哪 |
|---|---|---|---|
| The 9 bar spring caused the trip | The $19 kit is a mechanical spring | OPV kit | Bar vs mains |
| Keep resetting and brew | A trip means stop | r/gaggiaclassic #1 after reassembly | Repeat vs fault |
| PID install is low voltage only | The element circuit is mains | PID kit | Board vs boiler |

What to do before another reset
Unplug. Do not open a live case. If the trip started the first time you closed the lid after a PID or thermostat job, assume a wire is trapped until you have looked with the cord out. If you are not comfortable on mains, stop and use a qualified person. The thermostat kit’s own warning is the same: verify terminals are dead before you pull wires.
A loud pump that still runs is noise, not a short.

What will not clear the fault
A new group gasket will not. A shower screen will not. A different basket will not. Descale will not. Those are water-side parts. The breaker is the electrical side.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Gaggia Classic trip the breaker?
If it started after reassembly, look for a pinched or loose mains wire with the machine unplugged. If it trips on a GFCI with no recent work, treat it as a leak to ground and stop using it.
Can the OPV spring trip the breaker?
No. The spring is a pressure part.
Is it safe to reset the breaker and try again?
One reset after you have unplugged and checked an obvious crushed wire is a test. Repeated trips mean leave it unplugged.
Does a PID kit remove the mains hazard?
No. The boiler element is still mains. The kit adds a controller. It does not make the case low voltage.
Should I descale a machine that trips?
No. Fix the electrical fault first. Water and a short do not belong in the same afternoon.
